The website “Historical Site Photos,” which meticulously documents the landscapes, prayers, and daily activities encountered in the lives of people primarily in the Yuki area of Hachioji, Tokyo. They use CODE..
This site is operated with the aim of preserving the historical sites, landscapes, and people’s activities remaining in the Yugi area, located in the eastern part of Hachioji City, Tokyo, from a perspective between “recording” and “storytelling.”
We value observing the area from various angles—not just festivals and annual events, but also plants, stone Buddhas, traces of roads, and everyday scenery—and accumulating these as enduring records.
The Yugi area is also a land strongly influenced by the Tama New Town development. Its current landscape overlays traces of life continuing since before development with the urban form created as a new town. The documentation undertaken on this site is also an act of capturing this “cross-section of present-day Tama New Town.”
The TCD theme “CODE.” we use was chosen because its structure allows both photos and text to naturally take center stage. We were drawn to its ability to present the content itself carefully, without relying on excessive decoration.
On the homepage, we leverage the horizontal scrolling layout to ensure accumulated articles don’t get buried, consciously aiming to intuitively convey the site’s breadth and depth.
Furthermore, the ranking feature visualizes visitors’ interests and the balance of content within the site, which we feel is a crucial element for sustaining this ongoing documentation.
Rather than aiming for short-term completion, we plan to quietly archive the passage of time in this region by accumulating articles over several years.
Supported by the inherent completeness of “CODE.”, we aim to cultivate this site steadily and sustainably over the long term.“Whimsical Historical Site Photos” presents local historical sites, landscapes, and everyday scenes not merely as photographic records, but through a unique perspective that straddles “documentation” and “narrative”. The subjects extend beyond conventional cultural or tourist attractions. The site consistently shows a careful attention to things that are often overlooked at first glance, such as traces of roads, stone Buddhas, plants, and casual everyday scenes, and a commitment to taking time to build up content.
The top page effectively displays a horizontally scrolling article list (article carousel) and category articles incorporating parallax effects. Although the site has a large number of articles, the structure ensures that content does not get buried, achieving both navigability and visibility. Furthermore, utilizing the CODE. dedicated content builder makes construction and updates easy.

Another feature is the ranking function, which allows you to visualize which articles are attracting the most interest from viewers. This mechanism not only “records” data, but also allows you to understand “how articles are being read,” serving as an indicator for ongoing operation.

We invite you to explore this as one example of how CODE. can be utilized.
